Juki: The Company
Founded in 1938, Juki is a Japanese company that mainly creates industrial and domestic sewing machines.
They are headquartered in Tama-shi, Tokyo, and, in 1974, they opened their first U.S. office in New York City. They now create both computer and mechanical sewing machines, as well as sergers.
According to their website, Juki has increased in popularity with their HZL line of sewing machines, which has an “excellent stitch quality” and is easy to use.
The warranty for the Juki HZL-DX7 sewing machine is five years for the mechanical parts, two years for the electronic parts, and 90 days for any defects in the manufacturing process or workmanship.
The mechanical parts and the electronics have to fail because of an error on Juki’s part or through any normal wear and tear, not because you have misused or abused the machine in any way. You also must send it to an authorized Juki specialist.
You are responsible for labor charges, but not for the cost of replacement parts.
The Juki HZL-DX7 Sewing Machine comes with 287 built-in stitches, including four different font stitches and 16 buttonholes. You are unlikely to need a stitch you can’t find on this machine.
There are also 10 direct stitch patterns that allow you to simply push a button when you want to use a common stitch (like a straight stitch, a zig zag stitch, or an overcast) and the machine will set it up for you.
This Juki sewing machine has a drop-in bobbin as compared to a front-loading one, making it easier to insert the bobbin and access it for refills.
You need only reach for the compartment near the needle plate, slide the door open, and easily insert or take out the bobbin.
With a front-loading bobbin, you have to take off the compartment on the front of the machine, open the bobbin compartment door, and then try to see to put the bobbin inside. If something goes wrong, it is much harder to access it – but the drop-in feature prevents this.
Because this is a computerized machine, it boasts of an LCD screen that displays stitches, stitch length and width, and speed, as well as the font stitches and the buttonholes.
The screen will also tell you the needle position, if the float function is on or off, and whether or not a presser foot needs to be used.
This ensures fewer mistakes, allowing you to quickly update yourself on the process with a glance.
The Juki HZL-DX7 Sewing Machine has a special feature called the “float function.”
This allows you to sew with the presser foot slightly raised. You can now sew without the presser foot pushing the fabric layers down or creating uneven seams.
If you’re sewing through a lot of layers, this can be very helpful to keep puckers at bay.
Automatic Needle Threader
This Juki Sewing Machine also comes with an automatic needle threader. There’s no need to strain your eyes any longer; the machine will do all the needle-threading for you!
While this might seem like a small feature, not all sewing machines have it and it’s a great little addition to have.
Automatic Thread Cutting
Just like the automatic needle threader, this feature is often overlooked but not on this machine.
Easily snip your thread away with a tap of a button or a press of your heel and you can keep your sewing flow moving easily.
Knee Lifting Lever
To make your sewing experience even more at ease, Juki has included a knee lifting lever so you can lower or raise the presser foot just by moving your knee.
You can keep your hands on your project which is especially important for those finely tuned additions.
This machine is equipped to help tackle big projects, and with the inclusion of the extension table, it makes these bigger tasks all the easier.

Easy to Use
Nearly every user raved about this machine’s ease of use. Once you’ve plugged it in, you need only use the automatic bobbin winder to thread the bobbin, insert it into the bobbin compartment, and then move onto threading the machine.
Once you’ve used the automatic threader, you can pick the stitch using the buttons and the LCD screen, select the length and the presser foot you want to use (if necessary), and then press the pedal. You’re ready to go!
This makes this machine great for a variety of sewers, whether you’re still new to the craft or have been sewing for some time. It won’t take you too long to figure this machine out.
Because of 287 stitches, you can do just about anything with the Juki HZL-DX7 Sewing Machine.
From the basic stitches to more decorative ones to buttonholes to even writing in four different fonts, the choices are nearly endless.
Since this machine comes with a number of different specialized functions and presser feet, your creativity is rarely – if ever – limited.
This versatile machine makes it easy for beginners to quickly grow in their craft, while more advanced users won’t feel limited by this machine. You’ll have a number of projects at your fingertips without feeling the need to upgrade.
Good on Most Fabrics
We’re happy to report you can use this sewing machine on nearly any type of fabric.
With most home sewing machines, you can’t work on extremely thick materials, lest they become stuck in the machine or even break the needle.
However, with the Juki, that is not an issue. It may be thanks to Juki’s experience in developing industrial machines.
Their sewing devices made for the everyday user can get through tougher fabrics (even thick denim!), as well as delicate fabrics or multiple layers without much of an issue.
This Juki Sewing Machine is also relatively quiet. So, whether you’re sewing for long periods of time and don’t want to develop a headache, this machine won’t be the one to be a nuisance.
A noisy sewing machine can easily break the concentration of those with sensitive ears, while a quieter machine will allow you to work in zen, to the radio, or to your own hums – as you wish.
If you intend on sewing late at night or early in the morning, or just don’t want to bother the roommate, this is the sewing machine for you.
Watch for Lemons
Sadly, a few users discovered that the machine either arrived broken or broke after a couple of uses.
At its price, this sewing machine should last you a lifetime – and absolutely shouldn’t break right out of the box.
While this wasn’t an issue for most users, and you do have a warranty, it’s still worth noting before you buy.
Bad Customer Service
A couple testers reported a less than stellar experience with Juki’s customer service. The company either didn’t respond at all or responded a couple of times before going silent.
This sewing machine appears to be a good buy – but it would be far better with quality customer service to back it up.
Here’s a vido showing what the Juki HZL-DX7 looks like out of the box and in action.
After going over all the positives and negatives, we do recommend the Juki HZL-DX7 Sewing Machine.
With all those stitches, the automatic needle threader, the fact that it’s a relatively quiet machine, and the drop-in bobbin, there are just too many positives for us not to recommend it.
While the negatives are definitely something you should consider, in this case, the good far outweighs the bad.
Where to Buy the Juki HZL-DX7 Sewing Machine
As we’ve mentioned, Juki is no newbie to the sewing machine market. They’ve had decades of expertise under their belt, and it shows in the performance of their world-renowned machines.
Thanks to this brand’s popularity and success, retailers have no problem carrying the Juki name and items like the Juki HZL-DX7 Sewing Machine won’t be too hard to find both in-store and online.
While it’s usually best to check crafting, department, or specialty sewing stores, you can kick-start your search with the following online retailers.
And of course, you can also find this sewing machine on Amazon.
