The Juki HZL-F600 Sewing and Quilting Machine: The Details
The Juki HZL-F600 Computerized Sewing Machine appears to embrace the Mary Poppins approach to design.
At first sight it looks like a solid, non-flashy machine with a wide arm, a wide display screen and little icons to guide you along—but otherwise underwhelming in its aesthetics, simple and white.
That is, until you pop open that top cover and take out that bottom drawer, and all the tricks and gadgets the Juki HZL-F600 has to offer are displayed as if it were every-sewer’s-dream buffet.

- Dimensions: 14” x 23” x 16”
- Stitches: 225 sewing patterns
- Speed: a top-speed of 900 stitches-per-minute

Juki Corporation: The Company
Juki Corporation is a relative newcomer in the domestic sewing machine market, but is no newbie to sewing machines in general.
As the world’s number one ranking industrial sewing machine manufacturer, Juki Co. certainly knows what it’s doing.
Established as a small company in 1938 in Tokyo, Japan, Juki has since expanded to provide for a worldwide market.
With their industrial-knowledge background, Juki’s domestic sewing machines are designed to be incredibly durable and long lasting: a smart choice if you’re looking for solid quality that reflects in the machine’s performance.
225 Sewing Patterns
Any quilting machine worth its name will boast in-and-around 100 stitches—at the least, but this goal is barely the halfway mile for the Juki HZL-F600.
With 225 stitch-options, this machine can match (and patch!) your wildest quilt-and-sewing fantasies.
It also comes with the additional 16 industrial-style buttonhole stitches, allowing its users to create exactly the high-end quality effect they’re aiming for!
All it takes to know that the Juki HZL-F600 is a more advanced machine is to find the monogramming fonts it comes with.
With four font options, the HZL-F600 is not the one to start out on, but if next-level is what you’re looking for, it’ll do just fine.
Large LCD display (33mm x 66mm)
The large LCD display makes it easy to read off and is a great little addition, especially when it comes to monogramming.
Say good-bye to squinting and typing in a program without knowing for sure whether it registered or not—the screen is big enough for every bit of information.
Large, Wide Work Surface
The Juki HZL-F600 comes with a 8” wide, 12¼“ snap-on work surface, which is considerably larger than what most quilting machines have to offer.
The surface space in addition with the Juki’s high arm makes the tossing and turning of a thick fabric half the work it usually is.
Here’s a video showing the large snap-on wide table:
A very clever add-on, possibly inspired by Juki’s industrial background: a little knee-lifting lever that allows its user to control the presser foot without having to pause their sewing or lose track of the pattern.
Foot Controller—With a Thread Trimming Function!
Made with knowing exactly what a more experienced user needs, the HZL-F series has introduced the thread trimmer foot controller.
This gadget is what you’d call nifty; by pressing the heel side of the foot controller, the machine trims both needle and bobbin threads automatically, making it very easy to move on to your next pattern.
Uses Box Feed Technology
It’s clear that Juki really cares about the quality of sewing by adopting the box feed technology.
While most machines have the usual oval conventional feed, Juki scrapped that and took it up a notch by including the box feed to ensure whatever you’re sewing doesn’t shift or shrink.
This helps the accuracy of your sewing whether you’re working on light or heavy materials.
Direct Stitch Pattern Selection
Users’ most frequently used stitches are easily selected through the little keyboard, saving you both the time it takes to look up your favourite stitch and the time it takes to type in the program.
Selections include: overlocking, invisible hemming, and stretch stitch to name a few.
And what else is so great about the Juki HZL-F600? Well, it has:
- An automatic needle threader
- An easy bobbin thread winder
- Presser-foot pressure control
- Dual LED lights, for a visible work surface
- A randomized stitch-option
The Juki HZL-F600: Review
For the Heavy and the Light
The Juki HZL-F600 Sewing and Quilting Machine is extremely versatile.
From the million (read: 10) presser feet options, to the endless stitch-options, this machine can be used for simple stitching (though why would you?) as well as for the most advanced, professional quality garment making.
In other words, whatever you have in mind, no doubt you’ll be able to make it on the HZL-F series.
Thick fabric, light chiffon, pearl-applique—you can be assured this machine can handle it all.
High Quality Within Its Range
We admit this isn’t the cheapest machine out there, but its not what it wants to be.
For its own price range, however, this machine is undeniably one of the best out there, built to perfect your sewing.
Its design is meticulous, ingenious at times. It knows what its doing, and needs the kind of user that can keep up.
While the Juki’s plethora of features and controls can be overwhelming, you don’t have to accept everything thrown at you.
On the Juki HZL-F600, you can set the machine to your liking by programming your favourite settings into the LCD screen.
Juki allows you to save up to 70 patterns by programming the needle’s position, foot control trimming, and even the volume of its buzzer with just the push of a button.
You can mix, match, and combine stitches and lettering and be ready to continue a project by selecting your programmed settings right on the screen.
Assistance at the Ready
The dangers with complicated sewing and quilting machines is that, despite a good design, additional assistance can be hard to come by.
In this, Juki is somewhat an exception: the assistance they offer in solving technical problems is pitch perfect, spending as much time as is necessary to help you get to the bottom of what’s not (and what is) working.
At the end of the day, the company knows that its users are investing both their time and money in a machine that isn’t always the most comprehensible.
They’re more than willing to reward that show of trust by listening to you huff and puff over the phone because “no, I’ve definitely pushed that button before, and last time I swear it didn’t do…”
Doesn’t Make a Fuss
We didn’t mention this yet, but it very much warrants a mention: the Juki HZL-F600 is very, very quiet.
For a machine of this size, doing what it does with the amount of gadgets it has – this is quite impressive.
So now you can quilt with the radio on and actually hear the next song. We live in the future.
Not for the Easily Confused
If it hasn’t become clear by now, let it be said louder and clearer: this is not your run-of-the-mill entry-level sewing machine.
It’s a complicated little number that will need your full attention, especially when it comes to programming your stitches.
So if you’re looking for a laid-back, out of the box and running in five minutes kind of machine, this one won’t be ideal for you.
What Goes Where?
So the Juki HZL-F600 comes with its own army of add-ons, snap-ons, gadgets, and extensions, and you kind of need to fully understand each of them in order to use this machine to its full potential.
Putting on the zipper-foot and using it to quilt a flower pattern won’t make you the prettiest of end products, and for this reason we want to point out, once again: it’s a lot.
But if a lot is what you’re looking for, continue as you were.
Too Advanced for Beginners
We’ve mentioned this before, but the reality of it is: the Juki HZL-F600 isn’t the most affordable machine on the market.
It’s good, and certainly worth its price tag, but it’s not a learning machine, and it shows. Its appeal is not universal.
Our advice? Consider, as truthfully as you can, your current level before jumping head-first into this purchase.
The Juki HZL-F600 Computerized Sewing and Quilting Machine is a brilliant piece of engineering and human design.
Its made to reflect the needs and habits of the more advanced sewer, and for those who take the time to figure out its peculiarities, the payoff will be great and guarantees professional, high-end results, for sure.
The flip-side of this is, of course, is that the Juki HZL-F series won’t be for everyone.
It’s a shiny piece of machinery, but we advise to carefully consider your own skill-levels before committing to this purchase. After all, it’s not a small price tag and is a choice that might need a good night’s sleep.
But for those who are certain of what they’re looking for—and know that the Juki HZL-F600 offers what they need—then we can say with confidence: you won’t be disappointed!
