Janome: The Company

Janome is a major player in the sewing machine world and known as a reputable company because their machines last.

Many have enjoyed their products thanks to their reliability, able to last years even when you’re less gentle on them.

Keeping it simple, as well as affordable, is a large part of the company’s mission, so the customer can enjoy the sewing they wish to do and not have to worry about anything else.

The Warranty

Information on the warranty for the Janome Memory Craft 200E Embroidery Machine Bundle can be found through contacting the nearest Janome dealer, which can be done here.

A proof of purchase must be presented to have a machine covered. What a dealer will tell you is the warranty runs nearly the same as other Janome machines; it’s covered for 25 years under home use, but the warranty will drop to 1 year if the machine is used for commercial purposes.

This covers the casing and major components of the machine, and the internal components are covered for a lesser period of time: 1 year for all computerized parts (such as the LCD screen) and 5 years for mechanical parts (such as the extra high pressure foot lift).

Defective parts, however, are covered free of charge.

Features

The Janome Memory Craft 200E Embroidery Machine provides a straightforward setup, allowing a user to get right into the embroidery without running into unnecessary complications.

USB Port and Multi-Folder Memory

You can connect the embroidery machine to your computer in order to transfer your designs across for easy embroidering.

It also has a multi-folder memory for you to save all your designs too.

73 Embroidery Designs

As well as being able to transfer your own designs across to the Memory Craft 200E, you’ve also got the option to use the many designs that are already in-built into the machine.

The designs include 55 designs and 18 patterns.

There’s also an additional 3 monogramming fonts included.

Built-in Needle Threader and Auto De-Clutch Bobbin Winder

Beginners and those of us with bad eyesight can rejoice — there’s a built-in needle threader!

It gets even easier and quicker to get started with the automatic de-clutch bobbin winder too.

There’s also an automatic thread cutter included too.

LCD Touchscreen

With an easy-to-use LCD screen, which enables a user to apply any of the pre-programmed fonts and designs to your craft, it allows you to do seamless embroidery.

It’s backlit and touch screen capable too — super easy to read and navigate.

Multiple Resizing Capability

Also via the LCD touchscreen is the ability to resize multiple images — by 90, 100, 110 and 120%.

There’s also 45 degree design rotation available here too, as well as mirror imaging and a tracing function.

Extra High Industrial Presser Foot Lift

It features an extra high industrial type presser foot lift for extra control on a project.

We found this particularly useful for intricate designs.

Large Work Table

The work table it provides enables room to maneuver, so the beginning embroiderer can work with some space to breathe as they learn precision.

Manual Thread Tension Control

The Memory Craft 200E embroidery machine hasn’t made it all easy for you though — there’s no automatic tension on it. But you can control it manually!

Built-in Carry Handle

We’ve already spoken about how heavy this machine is — a hefty 26 pounds — so the carry handle is a real essential when it comes to transportation.

It’s still not the most portable machine we’ve ever seen, but you’ll be able to carry it from room to room if you want.

Janome Memory Craft 200E Embroidery Machine Review

The 200E is a great embroidery machine for beginners, and we wanted to highlight some of the features that are especially helpful.

Though, while the machine is a solid model, there are some setbacks to it that are worth considering too.

The Positives

Great for Embroidering

There’s no getting around it — this really is a cracking embroidery machine.

Easy to use, plenty of design potential, and expert engineering that creates plenty of space and admirable stitching quality.

You can’t go wrong with this specialist machines.

Lots of Pre-Programmed Designs and Patterns

The LCD touch screen is extremely useful to the beginning embroiderer, with 55 designs and 18 patterns pre-programmed in.

If a user is just starting out or wants to create a multitude of patterns, the Janome Memory Craft 200E will guide them through how to go about it, enabling an aspiring embroiderer to create fantastic designs.

Not Too Fast

With the 200E Embroidery Machine, the beginner doesn’t have to worry about working at top speed. With a maximum speed of 650 stitches per minute, you can work at a reasonable pace to have more control over your project.

The reasonable stitch speed ensures accuracy and quality on projects, so feel comfortable, safe, and then work up!

USB Compatible

A USB port allows for the transfer of designs outside those pre-programmed in the 200E. So while it contains enough patterns and designs to keep a learning embroiderer occupied, you can still bring in their own flare from the computer or other programs.

Another advantage of this is the compatibility with other machines; designs made on here can be saved and transferred to other products in the Janome Embroidery Machine line, in case you ever desire to upgrade to a more advanced model.

Very Easy to Use

We’ve said it before, this Janome Memory Craft 200E is well designed enough for even the most beginner of embroiderers to use.

But even if you’re not a beginner, you’ll be amazed at how easy this machine is to use — from the built-in needle threader and automatic bobbin winder, to the ease of the LCD touchscreen, it’s hard to go wrong.

Here’s a handy video on how to set up the Janome MC 200E:

The Negatives

It’s Big

The Memory Craft 200E does require some serious space to work.  While setting it up, you’ll have to make sure you have enough desk space to accommodate the bulk and still leave yourself room.

Plus, when you go to store it, it won’t be an easy task: you’ll have to allocate quite a bit of cupboard or closet space for the machine itself, not to mention the accessories.

Some Janome bundle products come with a carrying case, but the 200E Bundle unfortunately only offers a carrying handle.

Missing Features

This machine doesn’t feature the accessories some higher models do, such as a sewing light. These do not come available for supplemental costs either, and a user of the Janome Memory Craft 200E must either improvise or possibly upgrade.

Also, it should be noted that the machine does not sew: only embroiders. Higher models do contain the dual function, so if you want a machine to multi-task, this is not the one for you.

It’s Expensive

Even at the lower end of the Janome embroidery machine line, this is not a cheap machine.

Don’t get us wrong, it’s very high quality and if you’re serious about embroidery, you’ll think it’s great value for money.

But as it can only embroider — no general sewing — it’s an expensive choice if you’re not looking for a specialist embroidery machine.

The Overall Verdict

The Janome Memory Craft 200E is one of the best embroidery machines on the market right now.

High quality, expert engineering and a large enough size to do some serious professional work. It’s one of the most affordable specialist Janome machines available, but it’s still expensive, so we’d only recommend it to experienced embroiderers or committed beginners.

We think it will definitely be worth the money after you learn all the patterns the pre-installed programs can teach you.

However, it does lack some of the more common features you’d expect from a sewing machine. The lack of light will make detail projects difficult, unless you can arrange lamps around you to compensate. For those looking for a dual function machine that can sew as well, this one is not for you – you’ll need an upgrade.
